In response to the fact that Okinawa Prefecture did not approve the design change over the plan to relocate the U.S. military Futenma base in Okinawa to Henoko, Nago City, the government scrutinized the reasons on the prefecture side and responded so far. Based on this, we are urgently considering countermeasures.

In April last year, the Ministry of Defense applied to Okinawa Prefecture for a design change necessary to improve the soft ground at the planned landfill site, but Governor Tamagusuku does not approve the plan to move the U.S. military Futenma base to Henoko, Nago City. We decided on a policy and notified it on the 25th.

Minister of Defense Kishi said, "First of all, we would like to decide our policy after the Okinawa Defense Bureau carefully examines the reason why it was disapproved by the Okinawa prefecture side."

Regarding the Futenma base relocation plan, when Okinawa Prefecture withdrew the approval for landfill, there were cases where the Ministry of Defense took legal action such as filing a complaint based on the law, and the government said, "Disapproval is already assumed. Countermeasures must be taken. "

The government said that relocation to Henoko is the only solution to eliminate the danger of Futenma base and maintain the deterrence of the U.S. military, and has responded so far with the intention of steadily advancing the relocation plan. Based on this, we are urgently considering countermeasures.
