Mali: the “national refoundation meetings” postponed

The “national refoundation meetings”, a sort of broad consultation desired by the transitional government, have been postponed for the second time.

Criticized by part of the political class and civil society organizations, these meetings were to start on Tuesday, November 23 at the local level and end on December 26 with the adoption of resolutions supposed to result from these exchanges.

It is through a press release that the panel of personalities responsible for preparing the national meeting of the refoundation postponed the holding of this forum, with, for reason, the need to " 

find the broadest possible consensus for the most inclusive participation. .

 "

No date has been set following this postponement.

But in the current state of things, many organizations have said they do not want to participate.

The cost of its organization and the fact that national consultations have already taken place in recent years are the main complaints against these meetings.  

Election timeline

A personality of the framework of political parties for a successful transition in Mali " 

wishes to disconnect the foundations of the transition deadlines 

" and calls for the publication of a timetable for the elections as a

sine qua non

for his participation.

Conversely, and for the transitional authorities, a date and a detailed timetable will be communicated at the end of these meetings.

These meetings are supposed to prepare the major political and institutional reforms of the country including those of the Constitution but also to establish recommendations taking into account the “ 

concerns of Malians 

”.
