The Swedish Public Health Agency announces that everyone between 18 and 65 will receive a third dose of covid-19 vaccine.

The government will set aside SEK 100 million to support a rapid vaccination rate.

- The recommendation is that it should be given 6 months after the second dose, says Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren at a press conference on Wednesday morning.

Today, everyone over 65 is offered a third dose.

The new group that will be offered a refill dose are people who receive LSS interventions, people who have decisions on assistance compensation, people who are part of medical risk groups and everyone who is 50-64 years old, says Karin Tegmark Wisell, Director General of the Swedish Public Health Agency.

- After that, you can proceed with an offer of a refill dose for the rest of the population who are 18 years or older.

Decision on vaccine proof ready

The government has also made decisions that enable vaccination certificates at public gatherings and public events with over 100 participants, which enter into force on 1 December.

- The decision has been anchored in the Riksdag, says Lena Hallengren.

Hallengren says that Sweden has a relatively low spread of infection, but that it cannot be taken for granted that it will continue in the future.

- The government takes the spread of infection around the world seriously, she says.

Therefore, the Swedish Public Health Agency has been commissioned by the government to produce a basis for the possible introduction of additional infection control measures.

- The purpose is to be prepared for a possible deteriorating situation, says Lena Hallengren.
