On Tuesday 23 November, it is 25 years since 16-year-old Järved girl Malin Lindström disappeared without a trace in Husum since she took the bus there to visit a friend.

Almost on the day six months after the disappearance, she was found dead in a forest area near the E4 - stabbed to death and subjected to sexual abuse.

An 18-year-old man was convicted of the murder in the district court, but was completely acquitted in the court of appeal, which considered that the evidence did not hold.

Since then, the case has been a so-called cold case, an unsolved murder where not many new information or testimonies have come in over the years.

Breakthrough

But a year ago, the National Forensic Center, NFC, was able to produce a DNA profile based on the small sperm stain that was secured on Malin's clothes.

Shortly afterwards, the unlikely breakthrough came which led to the Public Prosecutor now applying for redress in the case at HD.

Hear police investigator Ola Ehrenberg tell in the video how it happened.
