23 November 2021 European parliamentarians have called for "action to protect sport from the threat of separatist competitions such as the Super League": the resolution on EU sports policy was adopted by a large majority.



The vote against the "Super League"


The deputies "strongly condemn separatist competitions such as the so-called Super League because they undermine the values ​​and principles of European sport, thinking only of the interests of the elites and profit". In the resolution - voted by a majority of members of Parliament - called for an action against the Super League. Uefa welcomed the document: "an important step forward in the development of the European model of sport based on values ​​of solidarity and merit".



What's in the "Frankowski Report" voted in Parliament:


In the resolution there are specific recommendations on "good governance", solidarity, gender equality, diversity and fundamental rights, grassroots football, sustainability. As a "fundamental political institution, the Parliament of the European Union is adamant on the great threats that sport on our continent must face". Parliament's opposition to the recent biennial World Cup proposal approved. The request "to sports organizations to respect the current frequency of major international sporting events". 



Tuning of objectives between the EU and Uefa


Uefa will work "together with football federations and the main stakeholders of European football - fans, players, clubs and leagues - to achieve the objectives of the resolution and implement its recommendations". 



"The message of the European Parliament on behalf of the citizens is clear" - so Uefa President Aleksander Eferin - "Europe and the Europeans are firmly opposed to separatist projects such as the Super League because they threaten the values ​​of European sport"
