Conservative MPs are increasingly worried about Boris Johnson's skills and ambition after the speech.

Senior members of his own party said Johnson needed to get the government back on track after two weeks of faltering, in the wake of admitting he "crashed his car into a ditch" in his handling of a lobbying scandal surrounding a former minister.

Hailed Greta Gris amusement park

At Monday's speech, one of Johnson's longer lasting points of contact was his recent trip to the Hampshire's Peppa Pig World - an amusement park dedicated to the cartoon child character Greta Gris.

On another occasion, he compared himself to Moses in connection with the coinage of his plan to help companies invest in tackling climate change.

"I told my officials that the new ten commandments were that 'You shall develop industries such as offshore wind, hydrogen, nuclear and coal mining'."

He also imitated the sound of a gassing car.

"I thought it went well"

Business executives were not happy about Johnson's, according to them, lack of substantial policies.

At the same time, it is not just the Prime Minister's debatable statements that are being angered.

He is accused of having lost control of a number of important political areas from social care to railways.

After the speech, Johnson was asked if he was okay by a journalist.

The Prime Minister defended his performance, saying: "I think people got the vast majority of the points I wanted to make, and I thought it went well."
