Choose cold medicine for chronic diseases to avoid these "minefields"

Cold is a common disease in winter. For people with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and gastric ulcer, cold medicine can not be taken casually, and the choice must be cautious.

Cold medicines are mostly compound preparations, consisting of antipyretic analgesics, vasoconstrictors, antitussives and expectorants, antihistamines, antivirals, etc. Each component has corresponding precautions. It is recommended that you choose according to your symptoms medicine.

For nasal congestion and runny nose, vasoconstrictor pseudoephedrine hydrochloride can be used; for fever and headache, acetaminophen (paracetamol) and ibuprofen can be used as antipyretic analgesics; chlorpheniramine and diphenhydramine with anti-allergic ingredients can be used for sneezing Etc.; cough can choose antitussive dextromethorphan and so on.

Among them, the compound combination of pseudoephedrine and chlorpheniramine is a classic combination. For cold patients with only runny nose symptoms in the early stage, the treatment can be significantly improved for 4 days.

However, for chronic patients, some cold medicine ingredients may be "minefields."

For example, patients with hypertension should avoid pseudoephedrine to avoid vasoconstriction and continuous increase in blood pressure; patients with gastric ulcer should be cautious in using cold medicines containing ibuprofen and other antipyretic and analgesic ingredients, especially not in large quantities, so as not to induce and aggravate gastric ulcers. .

In addition, patients with liver and kidney dysfunction should also pay attention to the dosage of paracetamol; patients with glaucoma and prostatic hypertrophy should be cautious in using anti-allergic drugs containing chlorpheniramine and diphenhydramine to avoid increased intraocular pressure and dysuria.

Patients with excessive sputum should use antitussives with caution to avoid suppressing sputum.

However, "use with caution" does not mean that use is prohibited. If the doctor considers it necessary, it should be taken while closely observing the symptoms.
