Indian police have implicated officials of the local Amazon branch in a marijuana smuggling investigation.

The suspects allegedly used the online sales platform to deliver their drugs across the country.

Two men, arrested last week in possession of 21 kg of drugs in the state of Madhya Pradesh (center), claimed to have used Amazon India by passing off the goods as leaves of Stevia, a natural sugar, according to a report by police consulted by AFP this Sunday.

Amazon has opened an investigation

Neither the police nor the American group gave the number of employees affected by this procedure.

Amazon said in a statement that it was investigating and fully cooperating with the police.

"We do not allow the display and sale of illegal products in India," said a spokesperson for the company.

India is an important market for Amazon, which has invested some $ 6.5 billion there since arriving in the country in 2013.
