November 21, 2021 At 6 pm (10 pm in Italy) polling stations close in Chile, at the end of a crucial election day in which about 15 million voters had the opportunity to vote to choose the new President of the Republic, the Congress (the entire Chamber and half of the Senate) and the regional councilors.

All those who at the time of the scheduled closing time are in line at the polling stations will be able to vote on a day that was essentially quiet and which, contrary to the forecasts on the eve, seems to have had a high turnout.

Among the seven candidates, the obligatory favorites in the race to succeed President Sebastián Piñera, are José Antonio Kast (Republican Partido, far right) and Gabriel Boric (Apruebo Dignidad, radical left).

The candidates of the political forces that have governed Chile in the last thirty years seem to have fewer chances, that of the center-right coalition currently in power, the 44-year-old Sebastián Sichel, and the only woman, former minister and senator of the center-left, the 51-year-old Yasna Provost.

The eventual ballot is scheduled for December 19th.

According to the Electoral Service (Servel), the first significant results for the presidential elections will be available around midnight in Italy.
