In Bavaria the case of the 'no-vax' breaks out and the most glorious football club in Germany ends up in the eye of the storm due to the presence in the squad of some players who have decided not to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The story is debatable, also in light of the resurgence of the virus which, in regions such as Bavaria and Saxony itself, has begun to gallop in the number of infections. Bayern Munich has thus decided to lead by example, by cutting the salaries of footballers not vaccinated against Covid-19 and placed in solitary confinement, such as Joshua Kimmich, who was quarantined after coming into contact with infected people.

The news was released by the German weekly Bild am Sonntag. Kimmich, 26, was placed in solitary confinement for the second time due to new exposure to the Coronavirus. Last Tuesday the player had just come out of quarantine after coming into contact with teammate Niklas Suele, who was also positive last week. Bayern officials have informed Kimmich and four of his teammates that their salaries will be reduced if placed in solitary confinement, according to the German weekly. Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Michael Cuisance, are the other Bavarian footballers who have not received any dose of the vaccine, according to Bild.

Bayern, who were defeated on Friday - without Kimmich on the field - in Augusta 2-1 in advance of the 12th matchday of the Bundesliga, declined to comment on the story. The case of the German international Kimmich, who chose not to be vaccinated for "personal reasons", sparked the debate in Germany, in the face of a new wave of Covid-19 epidemic. Infection rates this week hit record highs, as the percentage of people vaccinated is less than 70%. The German regional governments of Bavaria and Saxony, among the most affected by the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic, announced on Friday the cancellation of all Christmas markets, as well as other local restrictions. On Thursday, a meeting of the Crisis Committee confronted the outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel and the heads of the Regions, who decided in particular to apply the '2G' rule throughout the territory, as soon as the admission threshold exceeds the three Covid patients every 100,000 inhabitants. This rule allows only vaccinated and recovered persons to access public places such as restaurants, cinemas, concert halls or sporting events, including Bayern Munich matches.
