During the climate summit in Glasgow, the Brazilian government promised to stop the illegal deforestation in the country by 2028. At the same time, deforestation has increased by 22 percent compared to the year before, according to INPE's report.

The level has not been so high since 2006.

- It is a fact that the current government has dramatically increased the levels of environmental degradation in the world's largest forest.

If we compare the more than 13,000 square kilometers we now see with deforestation in 2018 before Bolsonaro, we can see an increase of about 75 percent, says Christiane Mazzetti, spokesperson for Greenpeace in Brazil, to Reuters.

President Jair Bolsonaro believes that other countries are to blame for the development.
