French luxury brand Dior has recently been criticized in China for releasing photos of an exhibition featuring Asian women.

It was because they insulted Asian and Chinese culture.

On the 18th local time, foreign media such as Hong Kong's South China Morning Post and other media reported on the photos of Dior's exhibition, which caused controversy over Chinese culture.

The photo was released by Dior at an exhibition at the Westbund Art Center in Shanghai on the 12th.

The woman was wearing eye makeup that emphasized the thick eyelids and single eyelids, and flower decorations on her hair.

In response, Chinese state media immediately protested, saying that Dior had demeaned Asian and Chinese culture.

The Chinese state-run Beijing Daily (Beijing Ilbo) published an article titled 'Is this an Asian woman reflected in Dior's eyes', saying, "The eyes are sultry and the color of the face is cloudy. She is wearing thick eye shadow and Qing armor." criticized for tarnishing the image of Asians.

China Women's news also pointed out that "the aesthetic tastes of Dior and the photographer have gone too far" and that "their actions are intended to insult Chinese women and distort Chinese culture."

He added, "This ghostly photo of Dior not only makes the public uncomfortable, but also reads the 'pride and prejudice' in the aesthetics and culture of Western brands."

The photo in question is the work of a Chinese photographer, Chen Man.

On SNS, it was also talked about that the works that 10 million artists have presented through fashion magazines such as Vogue are mainly characterized by gloomy expressions and Qing dynasty costumes.

In the end, Dior took the photo down from the exhibition and also deleted the photo from its social media account.

However, there has been no mention of an apology or explanation regarding the photo so far.

This is a 'news pick'.
