In view of the steep rise in the number of infections, the city of Frankfurt has issued new rules to curb the spread of the coronavirus: From Monday onwards, a mask is required on the Christmas market, on the Zeil and in the old town, as well as in schools and at the adult education center, such as Health Department Head Stefan Majer ( The Greens) announced on Friday.

“With this general decree, we are creating clarity and sending a clear message: A mask, together with the vaccination, is the least intrusive but most effective tool against the virus. We have learned that in the last 1.5 years, "says Majer. The new general decree is initially to apply until December 15. The requirements of the state government, which stipulate that a mask is only required where a distance of 1.50 meters cannot be observed is, Majer considers to be “unsuitable for everyday use”, which is why the city has “sharpened” the rules.

Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD) praised the decision and said in a press release: “We are very pleased that our Frankfurt Christmas market can actually take place thanks to the current resolutions from Berlin.

Our additional new mask requirement is a good way to do this - we are once again tightening the federal and state requirements significantly.

Furthermore, we all have to be careful so that we can enjoy the run-up to Christmas despite all the circumstances. "

The general ruling is expected to be available online at frankfurt.de from Saturday, November 20.
