The Emirati adventurer, Khalifa Al Mazrouei, managed, after about six years, to realize his dream of reaching the sunken German submarine off the shores of the Emirate of Fujairah since World War II, which has been in the depths, about 110 meters under the surface of the water, since it was sunk by an Air Force bomber. The British Royal, while working in the Gulf of Oman on October 16, 1943, which led to the sinking of its 53 crew members, with the exception of one who survived by staying afloat without a life jacket for 28 hours, until he was rescued near Khorfakkan.

During his interview with Emirates Today, Al Mazrouei expressed his pride in achieving this achievement, which he gifted to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for the great support he gave him, as well as to his family for their support during His mission, stressing that the Emirati youth are able to achieve their ambitions, no matter what the difficulties may be.

He explained that his beginning in diving was in 2008, when his father trained him, but he had to stop diving due to being busy in university studies to return again in 2012, out of adventure and exploration under the sea.

He added that he started recreational diving and then turned to professional diving using advanced equipment and professional techniques, and reached a sophisticated level that qualified him to explore sunken ships near the shores of Fujairah. , despite the difficulty of the adventure that needs extensive training, and indeed he spent a long time training and developing his equipment, and gaining experience by traveling to different parts of the world to follow the new in this field.

He pointed out that after about three years of training, specifically in 2018, he learned that there was a team of divers who decided to explore the submarine, and their attempt was unsuccessful, and one of the team members died even though he was very professional, which led to his concern, And it prompted him to think about canceling the idea of exploring the submarine because it is at a great depth and the presence of dangerous water currents there, as well as the presence of neglected fishing nets and fishing lines that pose an additional danger.

Al Mazrouei indicated that despite the danger of the adventure, he could not go beyond his desire to explore the submarine, and decided to return to try again to achieve his dream, and sought to find out the mistakes that the team made and the cause of the death of one of its members to avoid them, as well as to develop his skills, where he discovered that the mistake that made It led to the death of the diver is that he got stuck in fishing threads and died due to high pressure.

He stated that he continued training for three years with coach Simon Nadim, who has good experience in exploring water caves, and committed to training for three days a week, diving more than three hours underwater, and also included training on how to communicate together under water, and trying to monitor the errors that They can fall into it during diving and how to fix it, then decide to carry out the adventure.

He added, “The day before diving, I felt a sense of fear because it was a dive into the unknown, we did not know what was in the submarine and what we could face there, and we did not have any pictures or video of the submarine, and we do not know the nature of the water at the bottom and its temperature, and what it is. organisms that live at that depth.

Al Mazrouei continued, “We decided to postpone the dive to ensure the safety of the equipment, solve some problems, and set a new date for diving, but it coincided with the tropical storm (Shaheen) that hit the region and the shores of the Sultanate of Oman. So we waited for the storm to end and for calm to return to the sea, and we set out for the trip, and the closer we got to the site, the more my fear increased, and the sound of my heartbeat rose, not from fear, but from enthusiasm.”

He explained that he was repeating to himself that it was a normal diving trip, and when he reached a depth of 90 meters, the vision began to become clearer, and a huge body appeared to him lying in the depths, like a cemetery for soldiers who did not know what they faced before their death, and he felt that he was heading to a place that hides a great historical story. .

And he continued: «I watched a huge submarine docking straight in a terrible scene, and I felt that my fear began to go away, and that I was in a place I owned, and that this is my submarine, my place and my goal that I sought after six years until I achieved it, and I was overwhelmed with indescribable happiness.

I tied ropes around the submarine to explore it from all directions, as there was a lot of wreckage on its surface, and despite the age of the hull, it was coherent, similar to the models I saw in documentaries about World War, and I also saw the huge cannon that it was carrying.
