It was in connection with trotting competitions at Jägersro in Malmö and Åby trotting track in Mölndal that track veterinarians on both occasions noticed longitudinal swelling in the skin on the horses' buttocks.

They made the assessment that the swellings come from whiplash that the driver handed out during the riot to make the horses run faster.

County Administrative Boards reported

The blows must have been of such a nature that the horses were probably caused suffering when they were distributed and for some time afterwards before the pain subsided according to the county administrative boards' assessment.

The county administrative boards in Skåne and Västra Götaland counties later reported the suspected crimes which have now led to the driver being prosecuted for two cases of animal cruelty.

The accused driver and trotting coach also deny any wrongdoing.
