The criminal court of Sarreguemines (Moselle) on Monday sentenced a 43-year-old man to 18 months in prison with a simple suspension.
The respondent was accused of having shaken his partner's baby.
He appeared on October 27 for "violence followed by incapacity for more than eight days on a minor under 15 by a person having authority over the victim".
The judgment had been reserved, explains

The facts took place in Freyming-Merlebach (Moselle) on March 15, 2015. The victim, a little girl born very prematurely, was then seven months old.
The child is now six years old and suffers from a speech disorder, epilepsy and a foot deformity.
During the hearing, the defendant had recounted having played with the baby by making him fly in particular.
He had explained that it was in this context that he had shaken the little girl.
Noting that the baby's condition deteriorated soon after, he took the child to the hospital, where manifestations of shaken baby syndrome were detected.
The victim's vital prognosis had been engaged for a while.
The deputy prosecutor, convinced of a gesture of annoyance on the part of the father-in-law, had requested a three-year prison sentence, including one year suspended, against him.
