In the same vein as Växjö municipality issued its decision, Region Kronoberg came with the message that they demand that staff who work close to cancer and dialysis patients should be fully vaccinated against covid-19.

SVT has now asked all municipalities in Kronoberg and Kalmar counties about how they reason about vaccination of their care staff.

Would they follow Växjö's example and set requirements for vaccination of newly hired staff?

Lack of resources in care

In Markaryd, a middle ground has been chosen.

The municipality wants to prioritize vaccinated people when recruiting care staff, but there is no requirement for vaccination.

- There is a lack of resources for qualified staff shortages, including in health and care.

Therefore, we have made the assessment that we can not risk our business, says Ida Ericson, Markaryd's HR manager.

Most municipalities say that they do not have any legal support that gives them the right to demand that already employed care staff be vaccinated.

- There must be a change in the law before you have the right to demand, otherwise we have to demand what it looks like today, says Borgholm's social director Lars-Gunnar Fagerberg.

However, in the case of new employment, the municipality as an employer can set other requirements.

All municipalities urge their staff to take the vaccine against covid-19.
