Elected Wednesday at the head of the Association of Mayors of France, LR David Lisnard will succeed François Baroin.

Questioned by Europe 1, several elected officials hope that the mayor of Cannes will make their voices heard by the executive.

REPORTING

Despite a very strong abstention, with nearly two-thirds of the 34,000 members who did not vote, the LR mayor of Cannes David Lisnard was elected President of the Association of Mayors of France on Wednesday in Paris. Its list of union with elected officials from the left and the right, supported by the outgoing François Baroin, was doubled over 62% by the members, while it faced that of Philippe Laurent, the mayor of Sceaux, supported by relatives of Emmanuel Macron Victor Chabert was on site.

In the aisles of the Parc des Expositions, if the majority of mayors welcome the continuity with the previous team, they make a wishful thinking: that David Lisnard stay away from political considerations.

"It's very good, we have a new president ... On the other hand, I hope that we will always work outside the parties", confides an elected official from a small town in Isère.

David Lisnard is expected on many files.

And for this rebellious mayor of the Lille suburbs, the priority will be the relationship with the executive.

"I hope it will be a president who will stand firm in power and government, mayors and communities take dear."

"A failure for Emmanuel Macron"

Even at the National Rally, we are delighted with the election of the mayor of Cannes.

For his neighbor David Rachline, elected in Fréjus and vice-president of the RN, it is also a new failure for Emmanuel Macron, accused of being behind the candidacy of Philippe Laurent.

"It is a failure for the President of the Republic who tried to maneuver," he said.

"The role of the AMF is to make the voice of mayors heard, and David Lisnard will do it very well".

Thursday afternoon, David Lisnard will speak for the first time.

A speech that will be followed by that of Emmanuel Macron.
