The "Child Safety Forum 2021", organized by the Child Safety Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, the day before yesterday, under the slogan "We Preserve Their Innocence", developed 10 recommendations to protect children from being subjected to sexual abuse in reality and the virtual world, as called on child protection specialists participating in the forum. To form an integrated system to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and caring for children.

The recommendations that came out of the forum included the establishment of a permanent national committee to follow up and monitor the direct, indirect and abusive practices of children in the real and virtual worlds.

The recommendations also included the development of a national indicator to measure the extent to which the objectives set to enhance the security and safety of children have been achieved, and the extent to which they are immunized against sexual abuse in all its forms and sources, and to organize training courses and workshops to enable parents, academic and community institutions to periodically identify types of direct and indirect sexual abuse.

The participants recommended organizing events that bring together parents with specialists, to identify the best awareness-raising methods for children that are commensurate with their absorptive capacities, and do not affect their confidence in society and people, in addition to talking about methods of dialogue and openness between them and their families, and strengthening coordination between parents and academic and community institutions to unify efforts to protect children and preserve their healthy upbringing.

They pointed out the need to coordinate with bodies and organizations outside the country to learn about their experiences in monitoring, addressing and limiting cases of child abuse, allocating a session of the forum for parents to familiarize them with the basics of protecting children from various abuses, and conducting the necessary awareness of the system of UAE laws and legislation, and the deterrent penalties it stipulates to ensure Protecting children from various forms of abuse, in addition to placing the worker and psychotherapy on the list of priorities that should be taken care of in protecting children from abuse and violence.

They stated that the focus should be on organizing the process of cases related to child abuse, in coordination between all parties, health, psychological and criminal, through the various stages of the process of caring for children exposed to violence.

The Director of the Child Protection Center at the Ministry of Interior, Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman Al-Tamimi, indicated that family neglect is not the only reason that leads to sexual abuse of children, as families' ignorance of ways to protect against harassment and extortion was one of the factors that put children at risk.

He added that awareness-raising plays a major role in preventing any abuse or violence against a child, and for the success of awareness-raising, collective efforts must be coordinated to draw up a unified mechanism of action through the preparation of awareness campaigns that form an integrated system aimed at educating children, parents and society as a whole.

The founding member and president of the Emirates Child Protection Association, Faisal Al-Shammari, stated that the association is working to expand the scope of child protection through a mechanism that ensures the provision of care and protection for children at the level of departments, from the child, the family and the community, so that child care is a matter of public benefit.

He stressed the need to be involved in global efforts and the participation of stakeholders and experts in child protection affairs, and to see successful experiences in this regard, in order to come up with an integrated work methodology through which we will proactively monitor any cases of abuse directed at children.

For her part, Director of the Social Protection Department at the Ministry of Community Development, Iman Hareb, said, "The well-established Emirati values, and the authentic traditions enjoyed by the UAE society, provide great immunity in the field of child protection, and an integrated system that worked to consolidate the elements of care, attention and love in the community, from It will enhance the social responsibility in protecting children from any abuse they are exposed to.”

She added that Emirati legislation emphasized the importance of the child's status and protection in consolidating a cohesive community building, as the "Wadeema" Child Protection Law focused on the importance of protecting the child even while he was within his family, and made the responsibility entrusted to the first building block attached to the child with his parents, and did not absolve them of responsibility if they were neglected. or delayed protection.

The Director of the Care and Rehabilitation Department at the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, Ghanima Al-Bahri, pointed out the importance of placing psychological treatment on the list of priorities that should be taken care of in protecting children from abuse and violence, due to the serious psychological effects that accompany psychological attacks, such as depression, despair, suicide attempts, and high their anxiety levels.

She said that care requires finding three stages, the first starting with the rehabilitation of non-specialists in psychological first aid, and they are the first front line who receive reports of child abuse, then establishing the importance of not being afraid of doctors and psychiatrists, removing the barrier of fear from visiting them, and finally finding modern methods and methods in rehabilitating Children subjected to sexual abuse.

Types of protection

The Executive Director of the National Center for the Defense of Children from the United States, Chris Nolin, stated that the center was developed to gather under its umbrella the types of protection and support for those children who are exposed to harm, health and psychological, in the various stages of the child care process, pointing out that all of this needs To consolidate institutional efforts to achieve the desired goal.

Chris pointed out that they are keen in the center to deal with incidents of violence against children in an immediate manner, by selecting expert people to talk to the child, and activating accurate security research to collect sufficient evidence in these cases. At the same time, the child is transferred to a psychological treatment center to receive care. Sufficient during the investigation and collection of evidence.

He praised the application of accurate measures in protecting and caring for children in the UAE, and the efforts made by the Child Safety Department, under the guidance and support of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, in order to unify efforts and coordinate joint work to care and protect children.
