Group A, B or O, rh positive or negative, it seems obvious.

But the diversity of blood groups is much greater than one might think.

Because this typing is transmitted with the genes and it is consequently the fruit of the origins of each one.

"In France, 250 rare blood groups are listed and an estimated 700,000 people carrying rare blood," explains the French Blood Establishment (EFS).

And among them are patients with diseases like sickle cell anemia who need regular transfusions.

The health pass is not required

This is why, for the first time, the EFS is launching an awareness campaign and especially a collection of rare bloods, in Ile de France, but also in Toulouse on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 November.

The appeal concerns all origins but "donors of African and Caribbean origin, more likely to have rare blood in our country, are particularly concerned", specifies the collecting body.

But did you know that our blood group is also the result of our history and our origins âť“ #MonSangEstRare

The operation, organized with the SOS Globi association which supports the sick, takes place in the city center, at the Maison du don on rue Lapeyrouse.

Small reminder, there is no need for a health pass to donate blood but people who have presented symptoms of Covid-19 must wait fourteen days after their disappearance.
