Pedro Sánchez and the government ministers will be able to raise their salary by 2% in the year 2022. The amendments presented by the PP and Citizens to prevent this have been rejected in the Budget Committee and, therefore, there are no further impediments to doing so cash.

It so happens that Congress declined to apply an identical increase in the salary of deputies just two months ago, citing the context of the economic crisis.

So, one of the most vehement groups against that rise was United We Can, which today has voted with the PSOE to overturn the amendments proposed by PP and Ciudadanos.

Thus, the salaries of the Prime Minister and the ministers will benefit from the 2% increase that will be applied next year to all officials.

The income of the secretaries of state, undersecretaries, general directors and senior officials of the constitutional bodies will also be updated.

The spokesman for Ciudadanos, Edmundo Bal, has intervened during the commission to ask for the support of the groups for his amendment. In it, the liberal party justifies that it is "completely excessive and incomprehensible" that the Government has established a salary increase for senior positions "in the current economic situation in Spain and the pressure that the economic crisis is putting on workers, self-employed and companies ".

As for the PP, his letter also proposed the freezing of salaries in the Executive.

"It is unacceptable", he affirms in the amendment, "that the government's salary rises when the majority of Spaniards see their income lowered as a result of the crisis."

"The Government must be consistent with what it requires from the Head of State," he concludes, alluding to the fact that the item destined for the House of the King remains unchanged at 8.4 million euros.

Shortly after the vote, the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, has warned that it is "shameful" that the government "most expensive in democracy", due to the volume of ministries, is going to raise the salary when.

"They say there is no money to help ALS patients or the self-employed, but there is money to raise their salary."
