“Of course, there is a political component, this project was politicized from the very beginning,” RIA Novosti quotes Breininger as saying.

In his opinion, the regulator is probably determined to buy time before the formation of a new government coalition in Germany.

At the same time, Breininger added that he does not see any signs that the pipeline will be abandoned, since "there are significant forces in Germany interested in the early launch of this project."

“Not everything is so simple, it is difficult to say for sure which component prevails - politics or the German bureaucracy,” the politician noted.

The German Energy Ministry called this decision of the Federal Grid Office of the Federal Republic of Germany "exclusively regulatory".

Earlier, the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, in the framework of negotiations with the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, discussed the suspension of the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline operator by the German regulator.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said that Moscow had not heard any political statements on the suspension of certification of Nord Stream 2 by the FRG.
