Did you know that the bananas you buy are imported green and ripen a few miles from where you live?

The Fruidor company, a fruit and vegetable wholesaler and specialist in this banana ripening process, is strengthening its presence in Gironde.

Currently installed on the national interest market of Bordeaux, it will move from October 2022 to the Parc d'Aquitaine ZAC in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, 30 kilometers from Bordeaux.

It will develop its maturation activity there for this fruit, which is widely consumed by the French.

It ripens per year in France some 185,000 tonnes of green bananas, mainly grown in Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Four to six days of maturation

GSE, a group specializing in business real estate, announces in a press release the launch of work for the construction of the 5,340 m² site which will include 30 ripening rooms, each with an area of 60 m².

Bananas transported by truck to the warehouse will be matured there in four to six days.

“The temperature rose and stabilized between 16 and 18 ° C.

In order to start the ripening process, which has hitherto been suspended, ethylene - a molecule of plant origin, produced naturally by bananas - is diffused in the ripening chambers, ”the statement said.

Offices (440 m²), a storage area and a product preparation / packaging workshop of 2,900 m² as well as technical rooms of 200 m² complete the project.

Ultimately, the activity on the site should generate 40 jobs.
