Olaf Scholz can in principle prepare his costume for St. Nicholas Day.

It is in the week which begins on December 6 that the Social Democrat is to be elected chancellor and succeed Angela Merkel at the head of Germany.

The secretaries general of the three parties who are currently negotiating a coalition contract have confirmed that they intend to respect the timetable they have set themselves.

After the copies submitted last week by 22 working groups, the leaders of the Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals are negotiating on the most sensitive subjects.

The coalition contract - in Germany, a very detailed text that was almost 180 pages the last time - is due to be presented next week.

In recent days, green officials had expressed doubts about meeting deadlines, progress on the fight against global warming, their central theme, appearing to them too weak.

After the agreement, the three parties will still have to approve the text.

The Social Democrats and the Liberals will hold an extraordinary congress.

The Greens will consult their base, which demands significant advances on the environment.

The future coalition must face its first test before its official constitution.

She will pass a bill in parliament on Thursday, providing for additional restrictions against the fourth wave of Covid-19 hitting Germany.
