The Vienna court (Isère) sentenced this Monday to 18 months suspended prison sentence the man who had pursued a police officer and shot him.

The facts took place during the night from Friday to Saturday in Chonas-l'Amballan (Isère).

The respondent explained that he took the official in an unmarked car for a thief who had just robbed his store.

Seven shots

The thirty-something assured to have "lost control, taken by nervousness, fatigue".

He had chased the policeman in the car and fired several times.

His departure to the hunt scheduled for the next day explains the presence of a rifle and ammunition in the cockpit.

He also claimed not to have targeted the victim and to have shot in the air.

Seven shots were fired, however, and pellets hit the back of the policeman's vehicle.

He said he feared for his life.

"You hear, he's shooting me.

[…] If I stop, he will kill me!

He shouted in his appeal to 17 broadcast to the court.

The merchant's lawyer described his client as "weakened due to the economic and personal context".

The public prosecutor had requested a sentence of thirty months in prison, of which twelve were closed.
