43 percent more new infections than a week ago, the guide values for the occupancy of hospital beds with Covid patients and for new corona patients in hospitals at a high during the current fourth wave: According to the data, the infection rate is accelerating in Hesse.

A further increase in the seven-day incidence, which reflects the new cases recorded within a week, also fits in with this.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, 241 Covid patients were last in intensive care units after 229 the previous day.

However, the 241 refer to Monday.

Regardless of this, capacity limits have been reached locally, for example at the University Clinic in Giessen.

And that doesn't just apply to intensive care beds for Covid patients.

705 beds in Hessian normal wards are occupied by people who have been proven to have been infected with the coronavirus (605) or who are suspected of this, 14 more than the day before.

This is also a new high during the fourth wave.

Hospitalization incidence stagnates

There is a simple reason why the Ministry of Social Affairs regularly uses the previous day's data for bed occupancy: it only receives the new figures after its update has been published. The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine Divi speaks on Monday of 228 corona patients in intensive care beds, 111 of whom are invasively ventilated. However, the Divi regularly reports lower data than the country for this guideline value; This is justified with different counting methods.

According to the ministry, the second benchmark, the so-called hospitalization incidence, is 4.42 after a good 3.8.

It reflects the number of people newly admitted to hospitals with coronavirus within a week and the corresponding suspected cases in clinics.

The threshold is eight and so far has not even come close to being reached.

Regardless of this, many clinics are reaching their limits, as experts warn.

"Pandemic of the Unvaccinated"

67.9 percent of the patients treated with Covid-19 in intensive care units in Hessen are only partially vaccinated or not vaccinated at all and confirm the phrase "pandemic of the unvaccinated".

30.3 percent are fully vaccinated.

This value increases.

This has increasingly to do with the diminishing effectiveness of the vaccine after a few months and in many cases also with the fact that people have not been able to develop adequate immune protection because of other diseases or because their immune system is suppressed by medication.

The vaccination status is unknown in 1.8 percent.

The vaccination rate is stagnating.

66.7 percent of the Hessian population are vaccinated, for people over the age of twelve it is 75.1 percent, as the state reports.

Experts believe that 85 to 90 percent are necessary to break the fourth wave.

As the ministry further reports, the Hessian health authorities recorded 1416 new infections overnight after positive PCR tests

after 988 a week ago and only 313 four weeks ago.

There were also seven deaths related to Covid-19.

The seven-day incidence rose to a good 188 after 53 four weeks ago.

Offenbach has the most cases under 100,000 inhabitants registered within a week, with 296, with a slightly downward trend, ahead of Frankfurt with 273 and the Odenwald with 271;

there it rises.
