Antony Blinken begins a 5-day tour of sub-Saharan Africa.

This is the first since Joe Biden was elected to the White House.

The US Secretary of State is visiting Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal.

At the heart of his displacement, the situation in Sudan and Ethiopia.

By going first to Kenya, Antony Blinken wants to support diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict between the government and Ethiopian rebels in the Tigray region.

Nairobi, which currently sits on the Security Council,

is an important ally

on this issue.

It is one of the priorities of the American diplomat during this tour.

Last week, the State Department called on US nationals to leave Ethiopia.

Meeting with Macky Sall before he takes the head of the AU

Antony Blinken's visit comes as the US special envoy for the Horn of Africa and African Union diplomats are still trying to secure a ceasefire.

Antony Blinken will meet President Kenyatta with whom he will also discuss the military coup in Sudan.

The head of American diplomacy will then travel to Nigeria to talk about economic cooperation and the fight against Covid.

There will be a final stop in Dakar before returning to the United States.

The opportunity for Antony Blinken to meet President Macky Sall who is preparing to take the head of the African Union.
