Last Sunday, it burned again on a playground in Malmö, and this time in Kungsparken.

The fire was the 19th since last winter and municipal councilor Andreas Schönström (S) has had enough.

- You get frustrated that you do not get this type that is behind the fires.

You want to end it, he says.

Together with the police, a group within the municipality is working to try to identify injuries and potential perpetrators.

In parallel, the extensive restoration work is taking place.

At present, it is difficult for the municipality to estimate exactly how much it will cost to repair the damage, but according to Schönström it is a multi-million sum.

- For example, Sollekplatsen in Varsparken is specially built, which makes it difficult to replace.

Other playgrounds are of the older model, so they are no longer in the range.

The municipality has also hired a security company to patrol the playgrounds during the times when the crimes took place.

- It will be another cost, but I am convinced that the people of Malmö think it is necessary right now, says Andreas Schönström.

The playgrounds will be restored in a year

In addition to the cost, Malmö's children and parents may need to expect a long waiting time before some of the playgrounds are restored.

- It is, among other things, the public procurement of construction assignments that drags out the process.

But according to Andreas Schönström, Malmö's playground visitors should expect nice and improved playgrounds once they are ready.

- We work, among other things, with accessibility adaptation.

Now that they still have to be rebuilt, we make it so that even more people can take part in the playgrounds.

For some children, this is the only meeting place where you meet your friends.

Therefore, we must make sure to build them up, he says.
