“If Putin can help, and he is clearly the one who is easiest to use his influence on Lukashenka to stop this inhuman transportation of people, then he must do it,” RIA Novosti quoted the German diplomat as saying.

Earlier, commenting on the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, Maas said that just scolding Lukashenka from the EU is not enough.

He also discussed with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielus Landsbergis the sanctions against Minsk in connection with the situation with migrants at the border.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with the Acting Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel, suggested setting up a discussion of the problem of the migration crisis in the contacts of the EU member states with Belarus.
