The next climate conference will take place in 2022 in the resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh on the Red Sea, Egypt.

A choice due to the fact that Egypt was the only candidate in the running for Africa whose turn it was to host the COP, but also because Egypt is one of the African countries most threatened by climate change .

With our correspondent in Cairo,

Come to Rosetta to admire the marine palm trees.

The sea has, in fact, inundated thousands of hectares north of the Delta and the palm trees are the only ephemeral witnesses of what was rich agricultural land since the pharaohs.

A one meter rise in sea level and a quarter of Egypt's agricultural resources are disappearing.

Alexandria is also threatened with extinction.

Today, the city of Alexander, which has already collapsed over the millennia and an ancient part of which is submerged, struggles with dikes and breakwaters to avoid being invaded by water.

In the Red Sea, on the edge of which the COP27 will take place, experts have observed a decline in marine flora due to the gradual warming of the water.

In some areas the coral no longer grows where it is dying.

Egypt therefore expects a lot from COP27 in terms of helping Africa to fight against the effects of global warming.
