A quarter more new corona cases than a week ago and a new high of intensive care beds occupied with Covid patients during the current fourth wave in Hessen with a further increasing incidence: The infection rate in Hessen is at a very high level.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Hessian clinics have recently cared for 229 corona patients in intensive care units.

Locally, capacity limits have been reached, for example at the University Clinic in Giessen.

And that doesn't just apply to intensive care beds for Covid patients.

691 beds in Hessian normal wards are occupied by people who have been proven to have been infected with the coronavirus (591) or who are suspected of having this.

This is also a new high during the fourth wave.

Hospitalization incidence stagnates

Please note: The numbers for bed occupancy refer, as usual, to the day before, in this case to Sunday. The reason: The Ministry of Social Affairs only receives the new data after its update has been published. The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine Divi speaks on Monday of 222 corona patients in intensive care beds, but it regularly reports lower data than the country on this guideline value; This is justified with different counting methods.

According to the ministry, the second benchmark, the so-called hospitalization incidence, is 3.8 and is stagnating.

It reflects the number of people newly admitted to hospitals with coronavirus within a week and the corresponding suspected cases in clinics.

The threshold is eight and so far has not even come close to being reached.

Regardless of this, many clinics are reaching their limits, as experts warn.

"Pandemic of the Unvaccinated"

67.8 percent of the patients treated with Covid-19 in intensive care units in Hessen are only partially vaccinated or not vaccinated at all and confirm the phrase "pandemic of the unvaccinated".

29.4 percent are fully vaccinated.

This has increasingly to do with the diminishing effectiveness of the vaccine after a few months and in many cases also with the fact that people have not been able to develop adequate immune protection because of other diseases or because their immune system is suppressed by medication.

The vaccination status is unknown in 2.8 percent.

The vaccination rate is hardly moving any further.

66.7 percent of the Hessian population are vaccinated, for people over the age of twelve it is 75.1 percent, as the state reports.

Experts believe that 85 to 90 percent are necessary to break the fourth wave.

As the ministry further reports, the Hessian health authorities recorded 722 new infections overnight after positive PCR tests

after 583 a week ago and only 163 before four weeks.

There was also a death related to Covid-19.

The seven-day incidence rose to almost 185. Offenbach has the most cases among 100,000 inhabitants registered within a week, with 312.5, ahead of Frankfurt with 268 and the Odenwald with 267.
