<Reporter> The

leaders of the United States and China, who had only exchanged views over the phone twice this year, decided to hold a summit meeting via video this morning.

The White House is in a position to say what the President himself will say.

[Jen Saki/White House Spokesperson: President Biden will express his thoughts and concerns that China should act in accordance with the norms expected by the international community.] A

senior US official said unfair economic practices, coercive and provocative acts against Taiwan. I gave an example that I would mention etc.

The White House reaffirmed its position that this meeting will not produce concrete results, but it is a place to responsibly manage the fierce competition between the United States and China so as not to escalate into a conflict.

[Victor C./Professor at University of San Diego: This summit can be seen as an early signal that the US and China are returning to a more normal relationship.] A

high-ranking US official said that the supply chain crisis and tariffs on

China, which are currently

pending issues, are not on the agenda of this meeting. However, he added that global issues such as climate change and health are the subject of discussion.

China is also in a position that it will not avoid confrontation in order to protect its core national interests, so it is noteworthy what kind of opportunity this US-China video summit will have in establishing relations between the two countries.
