• Cumbre Vieja Julio A., first killed in the La Palma volcano: a 72-year-old driver removing ash from his house

  • Live Last minute of the La Palma volcano

Julio AC,

the deceased in the volcano of La Palma, specifically in Corazoncillo, a neighborhood of Las Manchas, did not die when the roof of his house collapsed on him, but when he was found by the rescue services, on the morning of this Saturday, he

lay "inside the house",

which had been the home of one of his sisters,

"with the roof in perfect condition,"

according to family sources accessed by this digital site.

Therefore, the man

did not die when the roof

fell on him

,

nor because he was cleaning the roof of volcanic debris and it fell inside.

The ash would have had "nothing to do" with his death, always according to the family's version.

In the absence of the result of the autopsy, which will be carried out this Monday at the General Hospital of La Palma and whose conclusions will therefore arrive at the beginning of this week, the data provided by the family to EL MUNDO would leave the hypotheses regarding the causes of the death in basically two, also exposed by these same family sources:

"Either he died from the gases of the volcano, or from natural death."

The distinction is key.

If it was the gases that poisoned or left Julio A. without oxygen, the death could be attributed to the eruption of the Cabeza de Vaca volcano, which until now had not caused personal injury.

If this were not the case, the El Paso City Council itself, to whose municipality Las Manchas belongs, pointed to the possibility that the man would have died

from a heart attack.

In addition, in any case, it would be necessary to know

the reasons why Julio A., 72, was able to stay in the exclusion zone,

in his home in Corazoncillo, in Las Manchas, and to whom to attribute the responsibilities.

The man entered the area with permission to do so, with a crew of nine other people to

collect belongings and clean the roof of his house of ash,

but did not leave with the others.

It so happens that members of the security system established by the Advanced Command Post around the volcano accompany these crews, but in an iron way: when they enter, while they carry out any work at home, and also when they leave.

Julio A., in short, could not be alone at home, in the Las Manchas exclusion zone, when death occurred, for whatever reason.

The most likely hypothesis here would be that he

had voluntarily stayed in the place,

without the companions of the device having noticed.

The data provided by his family corroborates what was explained to this newspaper by a neighbor: "It was very strange that the roof had fallen on top of the ash," explained this source. "I saw those ceilings days before and they were quite clean, they had been cleaned,

for nothing could they weigh so much as to have sunk the ceiling."

The death of Julio A., on José Antonio Jiménez Street, next to the Las Manchas cemetery, has caused great sadness in the neighborhood, where he

was a very dear person.

"He worked for many years laying asphalt, in fact the street of the El Paso City Hall was laid by him," a friend told this newspaper. "He was a tireless worker, a very loyal guy to the company he worked for for almost 30 years." These sources emphasized that he was a "very athletic person, who was in very good physical shape, very healthy, and who also dedicated a lot of time to agriculture."

Julio AC worked as a driver and with elevators in the Ruiz Romero company, dedicated to asphalting among other things.

The next few hours will be key to determine if his death has to do with the volcano or happened due to natural causes.
