China News Service, November 13 (Reporter Chen Jing) Rectal cancer is a tumorous disease that threatens people's health.

The radical resection of rectal cancer, which has been around for hundreds of years, is the best way to treat rectal cancer, but the problem of anus preservation and anastomotic leakage for low rectal cancer 3cm from the anus has always been a problem in the medical world.

The reporter learned on the 13th that the team of Professor Liu Zhongchen from Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital has successfully developed a new technique for anus-preserving surgery for ultra-low rectal cancer after 10 years.

According to reports, this technology can regain anus preservation function for 90% of patients who currently need to remove the anus due to rectal cancer.

In the future, the number of rectal cancer patients who have the anus removed will be greatly reduced.

On the same day, the PPS Liu's Anus Preservation Center of Mengchao Cancer Hospital, a professional institution for rectal cancer, was established in Shanghai.

Professor Liu Zhongchen has been engaged in gastrointestinal tumor surgery for more than 30 years. He found that 90% of patients whose anus was removed for rectal cancer did not invade the anus, and there was still 1-3 cm from the anus.

90% of the patients whose anus is removed are not caused by the tumor, but because of the surgical technique.

This means that as long as it can be accurately excised and accurately anastomosed, the fate of 90% of patients can be saved.

Liu Zhongchen is determined to develop new surgical methods.

In order to open the restricted area of surgery within 3 cm from the anus, Liu Zhongchen first innovated surgical instruments.

In 2015, it was clinically applied, and the precision function-preserving anus surgery for ultra-low rectal cancer—PPS was successfully launched.

Since then, after many improvements, PPS3.0 came out this year, achieving anus preservation for ultra-low rectal cancer, and anus preservation for ultra-low rectal cancer has entered a new era of precision.

It is reported that medical institutions focusing on rectal cancer to protect the anus have not previously been reported globally.

The PPS Liu's Anus Preservation Center of Mengchao Cancer Hospital will start the commercialization of new medical technologies.

Professor Liu Zhongchen revealed that the PPS public welfare activities initiated by the Shanghai Science and Technology Promotion Foundation and PPS equipment manufacturers have attracted more than 50 hospitals to participate in the PPS operation for more than 40 impoverished patients for free and at a reduced fee.

This year, the intensity and breadth of public welfare activities will be further increased to benefit more patients.
