He added that this plan requires diligent and serious work, which the state actually started some time ago, as it established Masdar City, and hosts the headquarters of the International Clean Energy Agency (ARENA), the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar City, and the Barakah plant, all of which are indications of the state's serious work to contribute to Addressing climate change and global warming, with the international community.

He added that the UAE's hosting of the Climate Conference 2023 proves the UAE's interest in moving forward in this direction, noting that the "Covid-19" pandemic has created multiple changes, which have strengthened the state's orientation towards finding proactive measures, and foreseeing the future by finding clean alternative sources of oil energy. and gas.

He added that it is necessary for the international community to be aware of the great environmental challenges facing the world, and work to address them, and the UAE is one of the pioneer countries in this direction.

For his part, Professor of Hydrogeology, Vice-Rector of the University of Science and Technology in Fujairah for Academic Affairs, Dr. Zine El Abidine Rizk, said that the UAE is at the center of the event in the field of environmental concern, and confirmed this by several measures it implemented on the ground, including the presence of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in addition To the implementation of many projects that support the trend to clean energy in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and these projects have already begun to produce, and they were not limited to the implementation of such projects within the country, but implemented them in a number of countries.

He pointed out that the UAE's hosting of the climate conference puts it at the center of the world's attention in this field, in addition to sending a clear message to the world that it is playing its role with the international community in working to reduce global warming, noting that it is expected that organizing the conference in the UAE will result in Positive results that directly contribute to addressing climate problems.

Rizk stated that the measures taken by the state in the field of clean energy led to a decrease in carbon emissions in the country by about a third, according to studies, noting that the state's national strategy 2050 aims to have 50% of energy sources clean (alternative), which is a high percentage. Very high in relation to global rates, which is an international and national responsibility.

Professor at Ajman University (environmental expert), Dr. Riyad Hamid Al-Dabbagh, said, "Climate change is one of the most important environmental issues at the national and global levels, given the economic, social and environmental risks that this change entails, and this issue has received early and great attention in the UAE." In the context of these efforts, it adopted an important set of policies, including the policy of economic diversification and focus on the green economy, and the policy of diversifying energy sources by focusing on renewable and clean energy and enhancing energy efficiency. sustainable transport policy, sustainable urban planning, and others.”He added that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in cooperation with its partners in the public and private sectors, is working to strengthen efforts to deal with the issue of climate change, mitigating and adapting, through the National Climate Change Plan 2050 approved by the Council of Ministers in June 2017, and the National Program for Climate Adaptation, which It was adopted by the first session of the annual meetings of the UAE government in September 2017, and other related policies and programs aimed at limiting climate change. These wonderful efforts and perseverance culminated in the UAE winning the hosting of the next climate conference COP28 on its generous land, the land of goodness and blessing.

Parliamentary debate on environmental issues

The rapporteur of the Health and Environment Committee in the Federal National Council, Somaya Al-Suwaidi, said that “hosting the climate conference in 2023 aligns with the country’s strategic directions in this aspect, and the conference will have a direct impact on raising issues in the Federal National Council, as one of its main tasks is to raise general issues.” For discussion, then we had proposals to discuss topics related to the environment, climate change, water and food security.”

She pointed out that the problem of climate change has become one of the biggest challenges facing the world, and the UAE participates with great interest in finding innovative and remedial solutions to these challenges, and therefore it has implemented a number of projects and hosted similar conferences previously.
