The weekly report from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) makes it clear that the corona situation in Germany is worsening again at high speed.

The institute not only advises against major events, it also warns those who have been vaccinated not to feel too safe during these November days.

Although their risk of contracting Corona is still rated as moderate, the situation is getting worse.

Against this background, the RKI advises all citizens to forego unnecessary contacts again.

This applies in particular to unvaccinated people, whose risk of being infected is stated as "very high".

Furthermore, according to the report, the majority of Covid cases can be traced back to unvaccinated people, but the proportion of those who have been vaccinated has "increased significantly" in recent weeks.

Vaccination breakthroughs is the keyword.

One value makes you sit up and take notice, especially among the elderly, i.e. the most endangered group.

60.9 percent of all reported Covid cases in the age group 60 plus can be traced back to fully vaccinated people, so these are vaccine breakthroughs.

The value has risen in the past few weeks.

How quickly will the elderly be vaccinated for the third time?

However, the RKI points out that the number is so high because the vaccination rate is also better in this age group.

"It can be expected that more vaccination breakthroughs will be recorded over time, as more and more people are vaccinated and SARS-CoV-2 is currently spreading again."

Overall, there are clear differences between older and younger people.

In the 60 plus group, at least 41.7 percent of the deceased were recently vaccinated, while the proportion of those vaccinated in this age group in the intensive care units was 36 percent.

In the group of 18-59 year olds, however, only 18.5 percent of the deceased were vaccinated, and only 12.9 percent of the intensive care patients in this age group had a vaccination breakthrough.

Conversely, all other intensive care patients had not vaccinated.

The increasing number of Covid patients in intensive care units, which means that other cases of illness can no longer be treated appropriately, are clearly still on the account of the unvaccinated.

Around 2800 Covid cases are currently being treated in intensive care in Germany.

Exactly a year ago it was just a little more.

The RKI is also concerned about the development in old people's and nursing homes, as well as in the hospitals themselves. Accordingly, more corona outbreaks are being recorded in these facilities.

"Vaccinated people are also affected," says the weekly report.

Despite the vaccination breakthroughs, the RKI makes it clear that vaccinations are of great benefit.

It shows that the clinical studies regarding the effectiveness of the vaccines were right.

In the weekly report this becomes clear with the help of some figures: A vaccination protects in nine out of ten cases in the age group 60 plus before treatment in the intensive care unit.

In view of the vaccination breakthroughs among the elderly, the question arises how quickly they will receive a booster vaccination in the next few days and weeks.
