With a smile that does not leave their faces, as if carrying a message "You will not leave without happiness", the sign language translators of the Dubai Police, Mohammed Jamal Al-Nahdi and Hazaa Mohammed Ahmed, pioneers of "Expo 2020 Dubai" of people of determination, especially those with hearing disabilities, receive two implementers, along with a number of translators. Affiliates of the Council of People of Determination, an undeclared humanitarian role because it is in the shadows.

“The strong hands of the Dubai Police.” This is how the sign language interpreters were described, given that their hands did not stop moving, speaking in an exceptional language that is not limited to Arabic only, but the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, insisted on arming them with American Sign Language, as it is a language It is universal and understood by most people with hearing disabilities in the world, regardless of their nationalities, in order to provide the necessary care for people of determination inside the exhibition.

all the time

The sign language interpreter, first agent Muhammad Jamal Al-Nahdi, told "Emirates Today" that he and his colleagues were unloaded with direct instructions from the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, to translate sign language over the course of six months, the period of the "Dubai Expo", stressing that despite the great effort Which requires moving around the clock inside the exhibition, but it is a wonderful humanitarian task because it imposes dealing with the first groups with care and attention.

Al-Nahdi added that he and his colleagues do not wait or sit in an office or in a specific place, but they inform the operating room upon their arrival and the beginning of their work, and then they go everywhere in the exhibition, because some visitors of people of determination do not know their presence, so they must always be visible in their distinctive written uniform. On the back is a "signal translator".

He pointed out that the operating room informs them as soon as it receives any call from a person of determination, who has a hearing disability, so that we can immediately move to his place and provide him with the necessary care, and that they sometimes move with groups and other people see them and ask them for help.

Al-Nahdi explained that he and his colleagues are affiliated with the People of Determination Council in Dubai Police, and they are well aware of the nature of the humanitarian role entrusted to them, and they deal daily with a number ranging between 20 and 30 people of determination, but they do not consider this a mandate, but rather a human duty that gives them a feeling of satisfaction and comfort.

Close to everyone

For his part, Corporal Hazza Mohammed Ahmed said: “We are close to everyone, and what we do surprises many who were not even aware that the Dubai Police provide this kind of care, and a word of appreciation, a smile of satisfaction, or a warm hug from a visitor is always sufficient for us. Attention and care.

He added that he and his colleague Al-Nahdi hold a diploma in sign language, after a three-year study, and the first to obtain American Sign Language in the country. As big as the Dubai Expo.

He pointed out that there have been unforgettable situations that have passed them since the beginning of the exhibition, including the influx of an unexpected large number of people of determination to the concert of the artist Amr Diab, and in light of the queuing of thousands of early hours to enter the theater, I decided with my colleague Muhammad Jamal Al-Nahdi to take an initiative to facilitate the People of determination, so we provided them with a special corridor independent of the entry paths of others, then we allocated an area for them with a comfortable view of the theater containing about 150 places to sit, a behavior that was met with great happiness, given that they did not expect this exceptional treatment, considering that the positive reactions were As a reward for them, because community happiness is one of the most important pillars of Dubai Police's strategy.

Hazaa explained that "signing language translation is fun and distinct, because it allows dealing with a category that deserves all support and care, and there are many people of determination who are surprised by the presence of Dubai Police translators at the exhibition, and they feel comfortable when we accompany them, and we provide them with special cards that facilitate their tours inside the wings and avoid waiting queues." .

He noted that the organizers of the pavilions themselves have become aware of the role of Dubai Police signal interpreters, and sometimes ask them for help, as well as emergency situations such as people losing their phones in taxis, so we communicate with the Roads Authority, find the drivers and return them to them, and he stated that «(Expo) provides happiness For everyone, so we hope to be one of its sources in the global event.”

Forgotten car "parking"

The first agent, Muhammad Al-Nahdi, said that one of the funny situations that he and his colleagues went through at the “Expo” was for a Gulf visitor of people of determination and people with hearing disabilities. He entered, and attempts to revive his memory failed, so he reported to the operating room.

He added that the visitor was informed that the car bears Sharjah plates and does not remember its specifications because it is rented, and he only has the control key, so he and his colleague started searching, and passed through all the positions more than once, trying to open it remotely, but the attempts failed, until the visitor felt embarrassed and asked them to leave him to complete the search alone, But they refused, despite the expiration of their work.

After four hours, they reached its location, and discovered that the car had Abu Dhabi plates, not Sharjah, and that the "remote" was broken, confirming that the man embraced them and left the exhibition happily.
