Wednesday 10 November was Stefan Löfven's last day as Prime Minister.

After a government meeting in the morning, he handed over his resignation to President Andreas Norlén.

Löfven's resignation has been preceded by several days of intensive negotiations on a relaxed beach protection between the Social Democrats, the Green Party and the Center Party.

This was one of the demands made by the Center Party to release the government again after this summer's crisis - but this created a split with the Green Party, which did not want to see changes in beach protection.

After an agreement was reached on Wednesday night, both parties said they were satisfied and the Center Party will release Magdalena Andersson in a future prime ministerial vote.

Stefan Löfven is now leading a transitional government and the process of forming a government is in the hands of the Speaker.
