Rapes rise 20% in the region: 204 sexual assaults in the first nine months of the year

Rapes in the Madrid region have grown in the first nine months of the year by 20% compared to 2020, according to the crime balance published yesterday by the Ministry of the Interior.

. A figure that has grown in relation to 2020, with 170 cases, and in 2019, with 173. The confinement caused by the pandemic has not caused a drop in this worrying criminal typology. Madrid capital is the municipality with the most reported violations, 118, followed by the municipalities of Getafe (nine), Torrejón (nine), Móstoles (seven) and Parla (seven).

The crimes of sexual abuse have also grown

considerably in the Community of Madrid with an increase of 21.4%, going from 1,480 to 1,796 reported crimes.

The Madrid Prosecutor's Office already warned two weeks ago that the increase in registered crimes of sexual assault was worrying.

Likewise, it stated that the early age at which many of these behaviors occur continues to be worrying, since in 12 of the cases related to sexual assaults and in 37 of the abuses minors under the age of 14 were involved.

Crime in the Community of Madrid has risen from January to September by 10.7%

compared to the same period in 2020, a year marked by confinements, mobility restrictions and the state of alarm decreed by the pandemic.

Therefore, comparing it with 2019, the number of infractions has decreased by 20.5% and 13.8% compared to the previous year.

Thus, in 2021 there were 249,167 violations in the region, 225,051 in 2020, 300,241 in 2019 and 283,569 in 2018.

Intentional homicides and murders have been the only type of crime that has decreased

, registering 23 this year compared to 29 last.

The attempts have gone from 71 to 61, 14.1%.

The rest of the crime rates have risen.

For example, serious and less serious crimes of injuries and tumultuous fighting go from 1,700 in 2020 to 1,957 this year, 15.1 more;

kidnappings, from 6 to 12, double;

or drug trafficking, from 1,779 to 1,851, 4 percent.

In offenses against property,

from 67,722 to 75,929 this year;

while vehicle thefts went from 4,599 to 4,949, a 7.6% increase.

On the other hand, robberies with violence and intimidation rose from 7,615 to 8,726, 14.6% more;

and robberies with force in homes, establishments and other facilities go from 9,117 to 9,208, only 1% more.

Of these, thefts in homes went from 5,228 to 6,114, 16.9% more also due to confinements.

The rest of the infractions rose 10.5%, in line with the regional average.

, the registered infractions go from 133,171 in the first nine months of 2021 and 145,116 in the same time of 2021, 9%.

However, they are far less than the 185,679 in 2019 and the 173,495 in 2018.

As for the crime rates, the ones that increased the most in the capital this year have been thefts in homes, 2,882, 31.5 percent more.

It is followed by crimes against sexual freedom, 1,001, 17.1% more;

injuries and tumultuous fights, 1,107, 15.6% more;

and car thefts, 3,112, 13.6% more.

Homicides fell from 13 to 11 in the first nine months of this year;

while the attempts went from 35 to 35 and kidnappings from 3 to 8. Robberies with violence and intimidation registered 6,177, 12.1% more;

thefts 50,755, 7.7% more and drug trafficking reached 1,340 offenses, 2.1% more than last year.

Crime rate drops in Galapagar

For municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants,

, with a decrease of 3.7%. Boadilla del Monte stands out, with 45.5%, Algete with 36.1%, Torrejón de Ardoz with 35.9%, Fuenlabrada with 34.1%, Villaviciosa de Odón with 29.1%, Tres Cantos with 23.9%, Paracuellos de Jarama 23.7%, Getafe 23.2%, Majadahonda 21.7%, Arroyomolinos 21.4%, Alcalá de Henares 21.1, San Fernando de Henares 20, 9% and Alcorcón 20.3%, according to Europa Press.

The towns where crime increased the least was Pozuelo de Alarcón

, with an increase of only 0.1%, followed by Parla with 1%, Colmenar Viejo with 1.7%, Leganés and Arganda del Rey with 4.1 %, Alcobendas with 4.9%, Aranjuez with 5.5%, Navalcarnero with 8.5%, Las Rozas, Valdemoro and San Sebastián de los Reyes with 9.2%, Móstoles with 9.6%, Villanueva de la Cañada with 9.8%, Pinto with 10.5%, Mejorada del Campo with 12.5%, Rivas Vaciamadrid with 14.2%, Torrelodones with 15.2% and Ciempozuelos with 17%.
