In the last parliamentary election, in 2018, about 60 percent of LO members did not vote for the Social Democrats (S).

In 2019, more than one in four LO members instead supported the Sweden Democrats (SD), according to Statistics Sweden's party sympathy survey.

LO chairman Susanna Gideonsson believes that the members who do not vote for the Social Democrats are represented by the political parties they vote for.

- LO does not do that when we have a congressional decision that we should have union political cooperation with the Social Democrats, she says.

SVT: So LO does not represent them?

- No, not when it comes to party political issues, but on the other hand in all other issues.

Blame the loss on misdirected debt

When asked if Gideonsson sees any democratic problem with LO supporting the Social Democrats despite the fact that the majority of LO members do not vote for the party, she answers no.

Susanna Gideonsson believes that the shift in party sympathies within LO is due to many different things, but focuses on a widespread feeling of dissatisfaction in society which, according to her, is being misdirected.

- In general, I think there is a disappointment that welfare does not work.

As soon as we talk about those issues, it is the Social Democrats who get the blame.
