In Guinea, the National Committee for Recovery and Development (CNRD) is reorganizing the security forces.

537 police officers, including the director general Ansoumane Camara

alias

Baffoé, were sent to assert their right to retirement by a decree from the head of the junta and Guinean president of the Transition, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya.

The decree was read on state media on Tuesday, November 9.

A few weeks ago,

a thousand soldiers and 44 army generals

were also retired.

Among them, Generals Sékouba Konaté, the former president of the Guinean Transition (2009-2010), Namory Traoré, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Ibrahima Baldé, High Commander of the National Gendarmerie or Mathurin Bangoura , the former governor of the city of Conakry.

All considered to be pillars of the regime of former President Alpha Condé.

What do these changes reflect?

The new authorities assure that there is no "witch hunt" and that the recent retirements of officials within the police, customs and army, respond to a "right" that was due to the people concerned.

"

There have been indiscriminate recruitments, the police have more senior officers than executives

", notes researcher Mamadou Aliou Barry, who considers this gesture "

beneficial

".

Nevertheless, this vast reorganization takes place in a context where the president of the Transition seeks to appease the spirits, to avoid being himself questioned by this corporation.

"

It's a strategy to stabilize the system

 ",

estimates another observer, who adds: "

by reinforcing them in their rights

,

colonel Mamadi Doumbouya tries to gain the sympathy of soldiers frustrated by the lack of means of the army

".

One way, therefore, to gain popularity vis-à-vis an institution undermined by governance problems.

The only downside: the lack of financial resources from the State, which could well constitute a brake on any accompanying measures in this sector.
