A few days ago in Rome, Emmanuel Macron and Joe Biden wanted to show that after the French outburst following the Australian submarine affair, relations were starting again on new bases, recalls our correspondent in Washington,

Guillaume. Naudin

.

The visit of the Vice-President to Paris is a concrete illustration of this desire.

Kamala Harris, highest representative of the American president, will therefore meet the French president on Wednesday, November 10 face-to-face, at the end of the afternoon.

They should discuss among other topics of European security, the Indo-Pacific, global health, according to the White House.

Its participation in the ceremonies of November 11 will also place the Franco-American relationship in a historical perspective.

This is the diplomatic message.

But there is also a political message: his visit to the American Cemetery in Suresnes will be appreciated in a country that reveres its veterans.

Kamala Harris will also be the top American figure to come to the Paris Peace Forum since its inception in 2018.

In her age and position, Ms. Harris also potentially represents the future of the United States.

It is therefore, for her, to work on her international stature.

His last trip abroad, to Mexico, in the midst of the migrant crisis, had little convinced the public.

This is one of the objectives of his meeting with Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée and with other world leaders to talk about Libya.

In the meantime, the first woman to hold the post of Vice President of the United States went, on her descent from Air Force Two this Tuesday at Orly airport, south of Paris, to the premises of the Institut Pasteur to meet American and French researchers working on Covid-19.
