Norwegian police announced that they had shot dead on Tuesday morning in Oslo a man armed with a knife who had tried to stab several people and then attacked a police patrol that had come to arrest him.

A police officer was injured during the arrest attempt, which took place in a street in the district of Bislett in the Norwegian capital, also confirmed the police, who do not believe in an attack.

“We are not ruling out any motivation, but there is no information at this stage that points to a terrorist attack,” Inspector Egil Jørgen Brekke said at a press conference.

The police did not want to give details of the identity of the gunned man.

According to the Norwegian daily Verdens Gang, he is a Russian in his thirties who was sentenced in December 2020 to psychiatric treatment after a knife attack a year earlier, already in Oslo.

He then actively attacked the police with a knife (…) and shots were fired ”, according to the account of the head of the operation Tore Solberg during an improvised press briefing, broadcast by public television. NRK.
