The NGO to which a figure of the Fridays for Future movement has joined wants to force the German car manufacturer to eliminate the production of vehicles equipped with combustion engines by 2030.

Volkswagen is

highlighting its electric strategy in a marketing campaign.

But Greenpeace is clearly not convinced.

The environmental organization estimates that the change touted by the automaker is limited to advertising and that the Wolfsburg group will produce 95% traditional vehicles this year.

Impose a turn towards electric

The NGO wants the justice to impose a real electric turn on Volkswagen, as we saw in the spring in the Netherlands against

the oil company Shell

.

The plaintiffs want the German manufacturer to stop selling gasoline cars by 2030, worldwide.

Greenpeace is

building on the judgment of the Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe in the spring, which forced the German government to take swift action to protect the rights of future generations by taking stronger action against global warming.

If Greenpeace's lawsuit were to succeed, Volkswagen's CO2 emissions would be 2 Gt lower by 2040, compared to the German automaker's current forecast.

The judgment against Shell forces the company to reduce its CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030. For Volkswagen, the reduction would be 65%.
