November 08, 2021: US citizen Evan Newman, who participated in the protests in Washington on January 6, has applied for political asylum in Belarus.

This was announced by the Belarus 1 television channel.

The American said he was involved in six criminal cases that the FBI is investigating.

“They added my photo to the FBI's Most Wanted Criminal List, asking citizenship for assistance in identifying me.

And some of my friends have warned me about this.

I have many friends who work for the government.

I knew they would identify me immediately, so I preferred to leave the country, ”Newman said live on the Belarusian television channel.

The man, who owns a bag company, took the opportunity to go on a business trip and left for Italy last March.

Then he arrived in Switzerland by train, got in his car and drove to the Ukrainian city of Zhitomir.

According to him, after a few months of stay in Ukraine, he realized he was being followed and decided to leave for Belarus.

On October 15, Belarusian border guards arrested him as he tried to cross the border into the forest.

Then he asked for political asylum.

Newman admits he participated in the protests, but denies entering the Capitol.

Consider his persecution of a political nature.
