Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns and discussed a number of bilateral issues with him.

This was announced by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.

“Such a conversation took place, by telephone.

They discussed bilateral relations, a crisis situation in diplomatic practice, ”he said.

A Kremlin spokesman also confirmed that Putin and Burns exchanged views on regional conflicts and discussed cybersecurity issues.

Recall that the head of the CIA, together with the American delegation, was on a visit to Moscow on November 2-3.

According to the US Embassy in Moscow, Burns arrived in the Russian capital on behalf of US President Joe Biden.

In turn, the CNN television channel, citing sources, said that the CIA director traveled to Moscow to find out Russia's intentions in Ukraine.

"US President Joe Biden sent CIA Director Burns to Moscow this week to warn the Kremlin that the US is closely monitoring the increase in troop numbers near the border with Ukraine and to try to determine what motivates Russia's actions," the report said.

According to CNN, after his visit to Moscow, Burns also spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During the visit, the head of the CIA met with the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, with whom he discussed the state of Russian-American relations.

In addition, Sergei Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), held negotiations with Burns.

"The focus was on issues of interdepartmental interaction in the context of Russian-American relations with an emphasis on the fight against international terrorism," the SVR said.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov confirmed that during the visit of William Burns, the parties touched on the topic of Ukraine.

He clarified that this topic is constantly being heard in the course of contacts with American representatives in charge of the Russian direction.

At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a press conference after talks with Venezuelan Foreign Minister, said that Burns, during his stay in Moscow, confirmed the need to comply with the Minsk Agreements to resolve the situation in Donbass.

“Let me remind you that both at the meeting of Presidents Putin and Biden in Geneva in June of this year, and during the recent visits of US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland and CIA Director Burns during their contacts with Russian leaders, at all these meetings both the US President and his subordinates directly confirmed the need to fulfill the Minsk agreements, including the special status of Donbass, ”Lavrov said.

He also called on Washington to explain to the Ukrainian authorities that the need to comply with the Minsk agreements is the position of the United States and the UN Security Council, which "must be respected."

According to the head of the foreign ministry, such an approach would speed up the resolution of the situation in Ukraine.

We will remind, on November 1, the American edition Politico published an article that Russia is allegedly pulling troops to the Ukrainian border.

Later, similar materials were published by The Washington Post and Foreign Policy magazine.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the reports of the American media, called them a "fake campaign" and drew attention to the fact that these articles were published "as if on cue in a real panic attack."

“Nobody has contacted us.

We are sure that we did not turn to anyone from the Russian side at all, who would represent our country.

This is a classic of the genre: when such publications are being prepared, stuffing, then, naturally, the official position of the side is not requested, ”Zakharova emphasized.

Dmitry Peskov also called the Politico publication a "poor-quality stuffing", noting that the quality of such publications "should not even be commented on and, in general, should not be paid any attention to."

On November 5, the deputy head of the US State Department press service, Jalina Porter, said that Washington was concerned about reports of Russian military activity near Ukraine.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby also said that the department is closely monitoring the activity of the Russian armed forces.

The Russian Embassy in Washington noted that they were puzzled by such statements by the State Department and the Pentagon.

“Look in the mirror.

It is the American military who recklessly roam the world, leaving behind chaos, ”the diplomatic mission recalled.
