The US-sponsored Summit for Democracy is "yet another chimera" designed to demonstrate that the West has a "constructive unifying agenda."

This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“This summit for democracy is yet another chimera, which should show that the collective West has a kind of constructive unifying agenda.

The unification agenda should have concrete examples in practice, and not just theoretical fabrications, which then end in regular scandals, "she said on the air of the Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on the Russia 1 TV channel.

Zakharova also stressed that while all the contradictions within the United States persist, this country's application for a leadership position in the world "has not gone anywhere."

According to her, the summit proposed by the American side will be held, because even in the United States and "in the depths" of NATO they realized that it was "not comme il faut" to arrange the next military operation after what the whole world saw in Afghanistan.

“But something global, which could create a sense of the unity of this Western world, is quite.

And so the so-called summit of democracy was invented, in support of democracy, "- explained the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

She said that at this event, the invited countries will be segmented: into those states that "fully comply with democratic high standards", and those "that only strive for this."

Zakharova also recalled that Russia at one time proposed the concept of "reasonable conservatism", which "presupposes movement forward on the basis of all the positive and effective experience that has been accumulated by humanity, by each specific country in its specific example."

She clarified that the ideology of Russia, in contrast to the West, is interaction on an equal basis in order to counter threats.

"Against all those who disagree"

Recall that in December Joe Biden wants to gather on a single platform the leaders of "various democratic countries of the world" in the framework of the "virtual summit in support of democracy."

"The virtual summit, scheduled for December 9-10, will give new impetus to commitments and initiatives in three main areas: protection against authoritarianism, fighting corruption, promoting human rights," the White House said in August, specifying that in about a year " a face-to-face summit will follow. "

In September, Biden himself spoke about this event, stressing that his goal is "to set a positive agenda for democratic renewal around the world."

He also said that the defining question of the modern era is whether democracies can pull together to achieve real results in a rapidly changing world.

“Will the democratic alliances and institutions that have played a key role for much of the last century be able to prove their ability to withstand today's threats and adversaries?

I think so, ”he said.

Biden also said that the United States, together with partners, "will continue the critical work" to strengthen democratic institutions, protect civil society and independent media, promote free and fair elections, protect human rights and "insist on bringing to justice all sorts of violators and accomplices of corruption."

In the same month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov praised the American side's idea of organizing a summit in support of democracy.

At the UN General Assembly in New York, he said that the plans for this event are a "fresh example" of how, by translating discussions on key issues into convenient formats, the West would like to "exclude from the process of developing global solutions those who have my own, different point of view. "

“The participants, of course, will be determined by Washington itself, arrogating to itself the right to determine the degree of compliance of a country with democratic standards.

In fact, this initiative - quite in the spirit of the Cold War - proclaims a new ideological "crusade" against all dissent, "the Russian minister emphasized, adding that the summit will be a step towards splitting the world community into" us "and" foes ".

Lavrov also called it indicative that, declaring the priority of democracy in its relations with partners, Washington is "concerned exclusively with the state of affairs within the respective countries."

“As soon as it comes to establishing democracy in the field of international relations, the United States, and all its allies, lose interest in the conversation: no one, they say, can infringe on the authority of NATO and the EU,” Lavrov said.

He stressed that the imposition of a "rule-based order" instead of unconditional observance of international law "is fraught with dangerous relapses of bloc politics, the creation of dividing lines between a group of Western countries and other states."

“However, recent events have shown that voluntaristic rules can be applied inside the Western camp if someone becomes too independent there.

At least many world media outlets regarded the saga with the supply of submarines to Australia as a reaction to the talk about "strategic autonomy" of Europe, which intensified after the hasty US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The situation of chaos around this exit is also an illustration of the rules on which the West would like to build its world order, ”the Russian Foreign Minister explained.

Later in October, at an assembly of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy (CFDP), Lavrov noted that even "from a sporting point of view" it would be interesting to see who the United States would invite to a summit in support of democracies.

“I've already heard that there are arguments that a number of key allies of the United States, especially in the Middle East region, cannot be called democracies, and it is impossible not to call them.

Let's see.

This will require diplomatic resourcefulness, but the trouble is the beginning, ”the minister said.

"Democratic segregation"

As the American political scientist Malek Dudakov noted in a commentary on RT, a summit in support of democracy, initiated by the United States and aimed at uniting the Western world, is an unrealizable idea.

According to him, Washington has repeatedly made attempts to hold such forums to spread liberal values, but all this did not lead to anything.

“And now, when the West is more than ever torn apart by various internal contradictions, a considerable number of countries are not ready to move in the wake of the foreign policy of Washington and Brussels, such plans seem ridiculous at all.

Recall at least the story around the scandal with the defense partnership AUKUS, when the United States, together with Australia and Great Britain, ignored the interests of France, or the situation related to the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, which was not coordinated between the United States and European allies, ”the expert said.

He also added that Biden wants to hold a summit in support of democracy to show the cohesion of the Western world after the highly controversial end of the operation in Afghanistan.

Dudakov stressed that the United States, which positions itself as the main democracy in the world and wants to teach it to others, is in fact very far from democratic values.

“Of course, in the United States we are seeing a huge number of contradictions: the erosion of political institutions, cultural polarization in society, scandals with electoral fraud.

All this casts doubt on the model of American democracy, ”the analyst said.

Vladimir Bruter, an expert at the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Research, adheres to a similar position.

According to him, the United States has never defended democracy and is not going to do so.

“The United States believes that it has the right to declare what is democratic and what is not.

For example, they assume that the Saudi regime is democratic, while the Iranian one is not.

Therefore, the United States, conducting such reviews, once again checks the loyalty of its allies, wants to create a media image.

All this has nothing to do with democracy as such.

This is primarily about promoting American geopolitical interests, "the expert said in an interview with RT.

Bruter also stressed that the upcoming summit, which is being organized by the United States, is the embodiment of a kind of "democratic segregation."

“Basically, Washington says that there is a certain cone, on top of which is the United States, which are the ambassadors of democracy on Earth.

Then comes the inner circle, the Anglo-Saxon countries that are part of AUKUS - Australia and Great Britain, on which, according to the United States, they can always rely.

Next comes the circle of distant friends, the same NATO member states - a kind of vassals of Washington.

Then there are those countries that want to become the West, but never will.

For the American authorities, this construction is very convenient: it gives them the opportunity to manipulate their allies as much as they need, ”he believes.

As Dudakov noted, the United States really does have a claim to be the leader of a free democratic world.

“The initiative with the summit is a definite element of the new Cold War, which is being waged primarily against Russia and China.

Now Washington is broadcasting that it allegedly does not want to export democratic values due to military aggression, which turned out to be expensive for the United States and largely failed, as the US military operation in Afghanistan showed.

Now the White House wants to use soft power, ”the analyst said.

Commenting on the words of Maria Zakharova about the differences in approaches between Moscow and the Western world, as well as about the concept of reasonable conservatism proposed by Russia, Dudakov stressed that, unlike the strategy of the West, the Russian version is "closer to reality."

Bruter took a similar position.

“Russia does not offer to compete globally with the collective West, it is cooperating with everyone who wants it, on the basis of equality,” the expert noted.

At the same time, analysts agree that the summit in support of democracy, initiated by Biden, in fact, will not be able to somehow unite the West, with the consolidation of which the United States faces many problems.

"This event will never receive real content, especially against the background of deepening internal contradictions between Western countries," said Bruter.

The fact that the summit in support of democracy, planned by the United States, will fail, said, in turn, and Dudakov.

“The states of the West, of course, benefit from showing their rallying under the auspices of Washington, but this event will not be able to resolve the main contradictions that exist between them,” the expert concluded.
