Diplomatic efforts continue in an attempt to secure an Ethiopian ceasefire, and for the first time, the Ethiopian government and the rebel coalition appear ready to consider a cessation of hostilities.

If it is still too early to talk about dialogue, it seems clear that an end to the fighting is now possible, after the visit of the envoys of the African Union and the UN in Tigray.

This time, it seems that a channel of discussion has been opened between the Addis Ababa government and the Tigrayan rebels of the TPLF.

For a week,

meetings have been linked in the Ethiopian capital

, behind the scenes.

But on Sunday, November 7, two high-ranking diplomats visited Tigray, in the regional capital Mekele, a first since mediation efforts.

They are the African Union envoy Olusegun Obasanjo, and the director of the UN humanitarian agency Martin Griffiths.

The trip has been confirmed by the TPLF, but discussions are so far confidential.

For his part,

the American envoy is said to have traveled

to Nairobi to also discuss the conditions for a ceasefire.

The same day, in Addis Ababa, residents gathered at the request of the authorities to support the war effort.

But an unexpected voice came, on the contrary, to plead for negotiations: the famous singer Tariku Gankisi asked the Ethiopians to stop the fratricidal conflict and to come together around the table to “

negotiate

 ”.
