Friday evening, in Sainghin-en-Weppes, in the North, a man who had fallen in the Deûle canal was rescued by a gendarme, we learned from the firefighters and the gendarmerie.

It is still unclear how a man in his thirties found himself in the middle of the Deûle canal, Friday, around 7 p.m., in Sainghin-en-Weppes.

In any case, he did not manage to climb back up alone on the bank.

The help was thus called by a witness of the scene: firefighters and gendarmes.

And it is the latter who arrived first on the spot.

Refrigerated but healthy

Several patrols from the Bassée and Annœullin brigades were mobilized.

Seeing that the thirty-something was starting to weaken, a gendarme from La Bassée decided to dive into the cold water of the canal to lend him a hand.

He helped the victim to reach the bank and both were brought up by the soldiers who remained on dry land.

When the firefighters arrived in turn, they took charge of the young man and the gendarme, cold but in good health.

Both were nevertheless transported to the Lille hospital center.
