On his second anniversary, voices were raised welcoming the ceasefire in Libya signed between the forces of the Government of National Accord and the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, considering that it heralds a military transition to a political transition.

In this context, the Military Committee "5 + 5" began yesterday, Thursday, the opening of the Jufra Abu Qurain road, which links the east, west and south, similar to the road linking Sirte and Misurata.

The spokesman for the Sirte Al-Jufra Operations Room, Brigadier Abdul Hadi Darah, said - in a statement to Al-Jazeera Net - that the opening of the road came after several demands from the Misurata Municipal Council and the Council of Notables and Elders of the Al-Jufra region, given what citizens suffer from traveling a long distance that may exhaust them during their travel, and therefore the Chamber decided Sirte Al-Jufra Operations The road was officially opened to citizens wishing to take it.

Regarding securing the area, Darah says that those who used to secure this area were forces affiliated with the Sirte Operations Room, Al-Jufra, but now with the trend for peace and reconciliation, the Operations Room has addressed the Ministry of Interior to secure the road by the police agencies.

However, he added that his forces are ready to deal with any security breaches.

lifeline

For his part, the head of the steering committee of the municipality of Zamzam, Mokhtar Belkacem, says that this road is the lifeline between the south and the north, and it may shorten a distance of about 500 kilometers, since many Libyans go to the city of Misurata to spend their needs.

He points out that the Shweref area, located in the middle of the road between Abu Qurain and Al-Jufra, is not safe, but the road today will be crowded with travelers, calling on the military authorities to reduce their forces in the area to avoid any clashes, until the area is relatively stable.

Belkacem explained that the Misurata-Al-Jufra road was closed during the Islamic State’s takeover of Sirte in 2015, before Operation Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous eliminated the Islamic State in late 2016.

A passerby told Al Jazeera Net that he was happy to open the road, noting that he went out on his donkey to verify the authenticity of the news, when one of his sons mentioned it to him.

In his speech, he expressed his desire for officials to maintain the road after it was opened, so that all pedestrians could walk without problems, noting that the area is where camels pass through and is considered dangerous at night.

good tidings

And political analyst Muhammad Al-Shami says - to Al-Jazeera Net - that opening this road is a very positive step, and if it is actually confirmed, it opens the road between the north and the south for the stalled commercial movements, as well as for treatment and sick cases, and contributes to strengthening national unity and reconciliation significantly.

He considered that the move came as a surprise to the media, and this indicates that there is great work being done by "5 + 5" away from what he described as misleading media, noting that this military committee follows a positive policy to resolve the most difficult files, which is the "military division."

Al-Shami confirms that the arrival of international observers - and this was confirmed by the Military Committee a week ago - is another evidence of the existence of international guarantees for the parties to the conflict, for the exit of mercenaries and the monitoring of the ceasefire agreement.

election success

The same spokesman believes that the opening came after the arrival of international observers, and that opening the way paves the way for the success of the elections to be held at the end of this year, and contributes significantly to their monitoring on polling day.

He points out that the near convening of the Paris International Conference on November 12, is the biggest evidence that there is support from the United Nations for the "5 + 5" committee.

Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush confirmed - in a statement to our government platform (a government platform) - that the government will participate in the Paris conference on Libya, provided that it is a partner in it and a representative of the Libyan agenda, not just an invited country.

The process of reopening the coastal road was delayed for months, after forces in the west of the country confirmed that the road was stationed by Russian forces affiliated with the Wagner Company, which support Haftar's forces, and stipulated their withdrawal before agreeing to reopen the road.

But the berms are still standing along the road that the operating room Sirte Al-Jufra is working to remove, so that life can return among the citizens.

Libya has been trying to overcome a decade of chaos since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
